Making Money With Craigslist
August 9th, 2008 by Scot, under Craigslist, Making Money. 25 Comments

Affliliates have been making money with Craigslist for so long it’s almost not worth getting into the space and wasting your time. If you’ve ever taken a moment to look through Craigslist, you’ll notice any of the personal listings for dating are littered with affiliate links and other spammy crap.
This is good for you. If you have some time to employ a system that works, your competition is easy and lazy. There is still money in Craigslist to be made, I promise!
So, with spamming Craigslist you have a few options. You can go wide and long like most of the other affiliates and just post your spammy links throughout the site… or you can take a few extra minutes to do it right and actually make some cash money. There is a way to do both and make $xxx per day.
Making $xxx per day with Craigslist with just a few minutes of work
Step One: Sign up with an affiliate program.
If you aren’t already an affiliate with any of the major companies, it’s time you joined. You can’t make affiliate money without belonging to an affiliate program obviously. The easiest way is to simply apply for an account. For this tutorial I’m going to be using Azoogle.
Looking through the offers, I’m going to be promoting either Adult Friend Finder which earns $4.40 per free registration, or Fling at $2.20. the difference is Fling allows for e-mail sign-ups which will be to my advantage. The key here is to find something that is free.. Paid subscriptions just don’t perform well on sites like Craigslist.Use Sub-ID’s for different cities so you can track your performance.
Step Two: Redirect your affiliate link
Redirect your affiliate link through CPanel redirect domains or with a manual 301/PHP redirect. You don’t want to be sending an affiliate link back in reply or it’s going to look scammy/spammy. I’ve bought a domain just for this.
Step Three: Setting up the auto-responder (most important part)
Create a G-Mail account with whatevername@gmail.com. The most important thing to do afterward to automate the process is setting up an auto-responder. This is going to be the most delicate part of the entire job.
The auto-responder should say something like the following: “Hey guys I’m not on e-mail today, you can reach me at fling (if you don’t have an account it’s free) my username is ____“. Or, an autoresponder that says “Hey cutie, I like that idea. Add me on fling I’m getting off e-mail, if you don’t have an account it’s free, when you sign in my username is ____“. Using the affiliate link we setup earlier of course. It’s important to offer a “username” to make it seem more legit.
Step Four: Create a personal listing on Craigslist.
Create a personal ad on Craigslist in a larger city. Put a picture of a reasonably looking girl.. not so hot that it looks like spam, but not so ugly that she will not be interesting to potential jerk-offs. Type the ad copy up in a way that mentions a few local places so it reeks of genuineness.
If you create one ad you can create 50 and just edit a few variables to make them match up locally with wherever you’re posting. Find a local apartment complex in an upper-side of the city by using Google (Atlanta apartments, Atlanta bars, etc etc will bring you a slew of results for your ad copy) “Live” in that apartment complex, and be “going out” to that bar for the weekend. Get the jerk-off to send you an e-mail. The biggest point here is to MAKE IT LOCAL and CUSTOMIZED for wherever you’re posting.
Afterword
Once the ad copy is done, the rest is magic. The automated e-mail will respond with your affiliate link and the moron will register to see your profile on Fling. This traffic is desperate traffic… Desperate traffic is easy to monetize. Oh, and don’t ever log back in to your e-mail account because you don’t want to see 500 penises. Unless you’re gay.
Contact me if you want to see a few example posts that bank big.

Hey Scott, If you can make $xxx / day with this method, why work “inside the confines of a gray cubicle half the size of my apartment bathroom”?
In any case, how can this work for anything else besides adult offers? Any examples or suggestions?
Good luck with your blog!
Hey Forex (can I call you that? haha). This kind of scheme isn’t long-term. But, it’s good to make a few hundred dollars over the weekend, etc.
You can run this offer in different areas. Try health and beauty for one. Most affiliate networks have plenty of offers in that space.
Hope to see you around!
Actually, this is a pretty nifty idea. I might give it a try and see what I can come up with. Guys are dumb enough to fall for it… all you have to do is say something like, “I am getting so many requests for naked pictures that I decided to setup an account on fling.com and post them there. So go signup, it’s free.. my username is ******. Email me back if you like what you see!”
It’s only after they signup and don’t see any naked pix that they email you back and find the same auto-responding message in their inbox waiting for them.
btw.. you should add the CommentLuv plugin to your blog. It will increase comment counts.
Hey Jason, thanks for taking the time to drop a comment off. That’s a great idea to mix it up a bit.
Luckily GMail has what is called a “Vacation Autoresponder” that will only auto-respond once to the same person every 4-5 days. So, if they reply they won’t be sent another automated e-mail :).
Now I’m going to try to find a way to create a delayed auto-responder to make it seem even more legit for the morons who are in their inbox waiting for the reply… so it doesn’t seem so obvious that it’s an automatically generated reply.
GMail also adds all of your e-mails to a Contact list which is good for mass e-mailing right out of your inbox (using Blind Carbon Copy). To remind everyone to get on Fling, etc. a few more times.
I am going to go install CommentLuv right now, was looking at it last night and it’s pretty nice — thanks for the heads up.
Good post. Sexsearch.com is another good product to push for this kind of thing.
Hey Trent, thanks for stopping in. Does Sexsearch.com have it’s own direct affiliate program or do you know what network they’re on so I can take a look?
I bet it’s frustrating keeping your comments out of Akismet with a name like that lol, had to manually take you out of the Spam que.
Hope to see you around!
Edit: After looking at that website… wow that’s an awesome way to convert… after going through the process I almost naturally entered my e-mail address… Awesome.
I love the image in the caption… so true. I think people suspect that something isn’t quite right about what they are getting into, but then they figure “what the hell” and they do it anyway. How many times can you hit the same mouse trap?
Hey Tom, thanks for stopping by. Desperate people will take desperate measures. Unfortunately when guys are so hard up to be browsing the ads on Craigslist constantly for a new ad (I would know because I got 100+ e-mails in the first 5 minutes), they’re absolutely so desperate that they are easy to be manipulated. I don’t use my powers for evil though, haha.
nice tip you gave. Hehe
so how is it going for you? made that $xxx already?

Hey Hugo, thanks for stopping by — really enjoy your blog.
Actually about $90 this weekend just from playing around with a few posts, it’s really about how much work you want to put into making new posts on CG :). If you’re good maybe you can make $X,XXX?
Hope to see you around!

Chris,
Thanks for stopping by. Got the e-mail.. Hope to see you around!
I’ve tried this method before and found it to be difficult to scale up. Are you using EZ autoposter and a proxy to keep from getting ghosted?
Ps last blog post..Nowadays
I’m sure there are ways to scale up using proxies, and I’ve seen programs that can post to every city on Craigslist without being banned (I’m use it makes use of proxies as well).
But, I’ve only posted in one city.. took the e-mails (GMail builds automatic contacts for you once you have replied) and nurtured my contacts through myspace/e-mails throughout the day to send them affiliate links.
You can make $XXX pretty easily this way. I’ve gotten about 500 e-mails over the weekend from ONE post.
It’s a good proof-of-concept and I’m sure if you find the right program you can roll this out en masse.

I came across this while browsing blogs, and wanted to leave a comment. I’ve used Craigslist for listing both a car and a house, and the results were decent. I never gave much consideration to the idea of making money from this system though. Thanks for posting this information.
Looking at my stats, the search query you came in on is interesting but I will let your comment stay since it doesn’t have a lot to do with the spam you were trying to do in the first place.
Just for your information, your domain is marked in Akismet. (not by me)
